When a friend suggested Nicholas Fidei participate in the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer in 2007, he didn’t even own a bike. Now, he’s the leader of the “Cycle Warriors,” a Ride team made up of 32 participants who have raised more than $1.5 million over seven years for cancer research at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.

Fidei, President of Treasure Hill Homes, as well as the The Nicholas Fidei Foundation, recently presented The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation with a generous donation of $2 million to support the Space Transformation campaign.

The Princess Margaret’s new space is designed to prioritize the patient experience, emphasize that patients are partners in their own care, and to reinforce the message that no one is alone during this difficult and life-changing journey. This important initiative will facilitate clinical research at this world-class institution and the development of cancer care around the globe.

“Cancer has touched every family in some way, shape or form and has affected people in my life,” says Fidei. “It’s important that we put as much effort as we can into the disease to give and help and do what we can.”

Dr. Jonathan Irish, Surgical Oncologist at The Princess Margaret, called Fidei a “visionary” in business, life and his community.

“His choice of investing his energy and time into The Princess Margaret has not been an accident,” says Dr. Irish. “It is because he believes in investing in greatness. Government funding makes us good, philanthropy makes us great.”

The recent $2 million donation is just one part of Fidei’s ongoing support of The Princess Margaret.

The “Cycle Warriors” team has already raised over $105,000 for the two-day, 200-kilometre bike ride from Toronto to Niagara Falls on June 8-9, 2019. And Fidei expects to be involved for years to come.

“I have four kids and I’m not going to stop until I can see all my kids riding with me,” says Fidei. “I’m committed, with at least 10 years to go.”
