The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation began raising funds for cancer research at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in 1982. Since then, the Foundation has raised well over $1 billion for one of the world's top 5 cancer research centres.

Relentless in our quest to raise funds to conquer cancer in our lifetime, we launched a 5-year Billion Dollar Challenge in 2012. It was the most ambitious campaign undertaken in Canadian healthcare history, and we are proud to announce we secured the $1 billion (
$532 million secured in philanthropic support and $520 million secured in research grants), ahead of schedule. Setting ambitious goals is driven by our culture and our passion to perform.

The Foundation has pioneered many successful types of fundraising including mega lotteries and large-scale events recruiting thousands of participants/fundraisers such as our Rexall OneWalk to Conquer Cancer and Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer, to name a few.

In 2016, the Foundation was recognized as one of Canada's 10 Most Admired Cultures for the Broader Public Sector for a third time (2010, 2013, 2016).

Our Strategy

With an ambitious goal to raise $150 million in net fundraising revenue by 2022, the Foundation’s mission is to raise and steward funds to deliver breakthrough research and clinical care innovations at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre benefitting patients here and around the world. This ambitious goal comes on the heels of the momentous BILLION DOLLAR CHALLENGE campaign, successfully achieved in 2017.  Our fundraising approach will focus on the following key themes:
 
- Focusing on and ramping up individual major giving
- Building a strategic corporate outreach program
- Protecting and innovating our major brands
- Building both digital and analytics capabilities 
 
The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation is currently in the midst of two fundraising campaigns to support the Cancer Centre: The Research Campaign, which will accelerate discovery in six promising areas of cancer research such as Immunotherapy and Epigenetics , and the Transformation Campaign, which prioritizes the patient experience at the Cancer Centre through an ambitious multi-phase project.
